Beyond Verbier
After I left Verbier, I took a train to Lake Como and Milan in Italy. Milan has a hold on me - I guess it's whatever Italy does to everyone. I found southern Italy crowded and hot when I was there a couple of years ago. Northern Italy on the other hand seems very civilized and livable. Of course I was there when all the locals leave town to escape the heat. One person I remember from Milan is the night concierge at the hotel. I imagine that's a lonely job, but he was so friendly - it seems like we had a lot of conversation for the time I was there. And he's a record holder I think -- for making the very best cup of coffee Americaine and for obtaining the world's most expensive taxi when directions to Cadorna station would have sufficed lol. I also remember the gelato lady in Bellagio. Not only was she very friendly in English and dish up excellent gelato and reasonably priced fizzy water, she helped me with my Italian (I spent a lot of time at the gelato stand I guess lol.) Here are a few pictures of that part of the trip.
